Flight Crew Files is committed to accuracy. When we get something wrong, we say so on the page where we got it wrong.
If you find an error in any case file, article or reference page on this site, email hello@flightcrewfiles.com. Please tell us which page, which specific claim, and — if you have one — the source that contradicts it. You do not need to be an expert and you do not need to be polite about it. We would rather be corrected than be wrong.
We investigate every report we receive. Where an error is verified, we correct it and publish a correction notice on the affected page within 48 hours of verification. Where we cannot verify a claim either way, we say that on the page rather than quietly leaving it as it was.
Corrections appear as a clearly labelled note on the page itself, not in a separate log that nobody reads. A number of our case files already carry these notes — they flag places where the widely repeated version of a story does not match the official investigation, including the simulator figures in the TWA 800 and Miracle on the Hudson files, the cause of the Swissair 111 fire, and the question of whether the Kegworth crew were cleared by the AAIB.
A substantive correction — one that changes a fact, a figure, a cause or an attribution — always gets a visible note. Typographical fixes, broken link repairs and formatting changes are made silently, because a correction notice on a misplaced comma helps nobody.
We will not remove a correctly sourced, accurate account because a subject dislikes it. We will not alter the substance of a published case file without marking the change. And we will not delete a page to make an error disappear.
Every case file on this site is built from official accident investigation reports and other primary documents wherever they exist, all of them publicly accessible without a paywall. Where an official report is unavailable in English — as with Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 — we say so on the page and name the secondary sources we relied on instead.
